Regional Historical Museum – Vratsa is one of the most authoritative cultural and scientific institutions in Northwestern Bulgaria, which seeks, studies, preserves and presents for cognitive, educational and aesthetic purposes the cultural and historical heritage of Vratsa region. As a result of nearly 60 years of activity – since the establishment of the museum in 1953 – in its storage and halls are preserved and exhibited over 120,000 movable cultural values ​​from all historical epochs.

The structure of the Regional Historical Museum – Vratsa includes the Main Building, Lapidarium, Ethnographic-Revival complex “St. Sofronii Vrachanski”, Ethnographic-Revival complex “Nikola Voyvodov”, Medieval residential and defensive towers – “Kurtpashovi Tower” and “Meshchiite Tower” with a total of 21 permanent exhibitions (representing the historical development and cultural heritage from the Stone Age to our time), Art gallery with 2 exhibition halls and a storage of over 2,000 samples of classical and contemporary art of all genres and styles.  

In the exhibition halls, visitors from the country and abroad can get acquainted with world-class artifacts such as: the unique clay altar with antlers and the early Neolithic burials “in situ” from Ohoden – the earliest agricultural civilization in Europe (VI millennium BC), the earliest proto-writing in the world – the clay tablet from Gradeshnitsa (V millennium BC), the largest Thracian treasure in the world – 165 silver and silver-gilded vessels from Rogozen (VI-IV century BC), the golden Thracian treasure from the Mogilanska mound – Vratsa (IV century BC), the silver Thracian treasure from Bukyovtsi (IV century BC), the gilded Thracian treasure from Galiche (II century BC), the only one in Bulgaria and the second in the world part of the liturgical vestments of St. Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher, the Cherepish Four Gospels and silver-gold church utensils from the 16th-17th and others.

The museum presents several unique for Bulgaria exhibitions, such as: “World of Child”, “Traditional vehicles”, “Hristo Botev and his detachment”, “Museum made out of paper”, “First Atomic power plant”, and others.

The museum library offers over 4,000 volumes of valuable scientific literature, and a Museum boutique for the sale of souvenirs and advertising materials has been opened in the Kurtpashovi Tower.

The expositions in the Main building of the museum are also accessible for the disabled.
