In the town of Ahtopol there is a relatively young, but interesting and rich in findings and arrangement museum “History of the Anchor”. Its exposition was created as a public collection of the Black Sea Strandzha Association, chaired by engineer Petar Kanev. The scientific leader of the project is the historian Atanas Orachev PhD.
The internal exposition tells the story of the anchor. It houses almost all varieties of this main ship’s equipment, which are found in the Black Sea from the middle of 2nd millennium BC until the first half of the 20th century. Various finds from sunken ships can be seen in the showcases and on the podiums. The collection is one of the largest in the world in terms of types.
